Remember all those notes you typically write (or, at the very least, intend to write) on the back of hard-copy photos The digital equivalent is captions With captions, you can make notes about individual images This way, when you look at the pictures years from now, you ll remember what the photo was about and, maybe more importantly, who is in the photo To add a caption to a picture, follow these steps: 1 Open Windows Photo Gallery 2 Double-click the picture you want to add a comment to This opens the image in a larger view 3 Click Add Caption on the bottom of the Info pane 4 Type a caption, and then press enter

Just like tags and captions, ratings are another form of metadata that you can customize With ratings, there are five levels of stars As with many ratings systems, the more stars, the better the image You can rate your own images by clicking the appropriate number of stars in the Info pane (either in full-image view or in Gallery view), as shown in Figure 15-13 Once you ve assigned ratings to your images, you can use the navigation pane shown in Figure 15-14 to view your photos based on your ratings

As shown in Figure 10-20, you may find that a few stray pixels appear along with the selection; this is a good time to use the other selection tools, such as the Lasso and Marquee tools, to add to the selection and correct this You can also use these tools to subtract from the selection to clean up any stray pixels in the background With experience, you will develop an eye for the type of images that lend themselves to the Color Range tool selection method

When you make selections, you can adjust them beyond the ability of the selection tools alone Let s look at the different ways that we can modify our selections
